Published ZIP profiles ranked by median household income, below the survey’s $250,000 ceiling

Methodology
Median household income from the ACS five-year estimates for the ZIP Code Tabulation Area. ZCTAs approximate USPS ZIP geography but are not identical to it.
None of the 49 neighboring pairs in this list are far enough apart to call a real difference. These figures come from the American Community Survey, which samples rather than counts, and for geographies this small the margin on an estimate is usually wider than the gap between one row and the next. Read this as the set of places that belong near the top on this measure, not as an order within it — the further apart two rows sit, the more the difference between them can be relied on.
Some entries here hold the same value and therefore the same rank. Where that happens the rank is printed once and the rows beneath it are left blank, because the order they appear in carries no meaning — there is nothing in the measurements to separate them.
What is excluded, and why
ZIP areas under 5,000 residents, any ZIP area outside the published profile set, and any ZIP area whose median household income sits at the ACS top code of $250,000 or more, where the survey publishes a ceiling rather than a figure that can be ranked.
The top 50 of the 3,013 ZIP areas that meet these criteria are listed.
