Methodology
The AreaProfile Climate signal: 45% the count of months whose normal average temperature falls between 55°F and 80°F, 30% a summer term penalizing July highs above 88°F, 25% a winter term penalizing January lows below 35°F. Climate preference is personal — Customize Your Score lets you weight warmer or cooler conditions instead of using this general-purpose measure.
Some entries here hold the same value and therefore the same rank. Where that happens the rank is printed once and the rows beneath it are left blank, because the order they appear in carries no meaning — there is nothing in the measurements to separate them.
What is excluded, and why
Cities under 100,000 residents and cities with no qualifying NOAA observing station within 60 miles.
The top 56 of the 351 cities that meet these criteria are listed.
